Frequently asked questions
There are three main types of Kindness Kits: Personal Care, Feminine Hygiene and Household Helps.
Personal Care (Hygiene Basics): soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and a comb in a resealable plastic bag. The razor is excluded in our back to school and some school and law enforcement kits.
Feminine Hygiene / Period Pack: tampons, overnight and regular maxi/thin maxi pads, panty liners, disposable wipes, small trash bags all packaged in a resealable plastic bag.
Household Helps: due to cost, contents rotate between laundry products and kits containing dish soap, trash bags, cleaning tools and bathroom, kitchen and/or all purpose household cleaners.

The products and kits we gather are provided to our partner agencies for distribution. Our list of partner agencies will continue to grow and be updated on our website. Our desire is to enhance local programs and services while eliminating the need for people to coordinate an extra stop to obtain needed toiletries. Are you located in a county we serve? Let an agency in your town know we are an available resource. Have them contact info@kindnesskits.info or fill out the form on the contact us page.
Don't qualify for services from a local pantry but you are currently experiencing a financial hardship? Volunteers qualify to receive Kindness Kits for their personal use.
Limited access to hygiene products can be detrimental to both mental and physical health. Not only can a lack of hygiene product availability worsen chronic illnesses by posing barriers to treatment adherence, that same lack of hygiene can have life-long effects on a person’s self-worth and self-respect. This can mean that children growing up in hygiene insecure households can struggle to end the cycle of poverty through successful employment. We are a program of the Blair Healing Rooms. Our desire is to see people whole and healed, both physically and emotionally. If providing access to hygiene products helps individuals and households improve their quality of life and health, it is a program the Blair Healing Rooms wants to explore and in this case spearhead in our community.
Kindness Kits serve rural Northeastern Nebraska and Northwestern Iowa. In 2023 we served 7 counties - Burt (NE), Dodge (NE), Harrison (IA), Monona (IA), Saunders (NE), Washington (NE) and rural Western Douglas County (NE) - meeting our initial goal to support the area we live in plus our neighboring counties. In 2024 we plan to add at least 7 more counties. Based on proximity and need, those counties may include: Butler (NE), Cass (IA), Cherokee (IA), Colfax (NE), Crawford (IA), Cuming (NE), Dakota (NE), Dixon (NE), Ida (IA), Thurston (NE), Wayne (NE), and rural Pottawattamie (IA) and Woodbury (IA) counties. Support levels depend on support from the community (as product donations from a specific community generally stay in that community) AND on the number of people served by a communities food pantry.
